NECA has acquired the license to create collectibles from the eagerly awaited Blade Runner 2049, the sequel to Ridley Scott’s seminal sci-fi. As per the official announcement:
Leading action figure and collectibles maker NECA announced today that it has acquired the license to Blade Runner 2049, the hotly anticipated sequel to the legendary sci-fi movie. The company plans to release a full range of figures, die cast vehicles, replicas, games and more in 2017. Additional details will be revealed at New York’s International Toy Fair in February.
The announcement only mentions Blade Runner 2049, not the original film, so at this time we don’t know if that is included in the license. We’ll know more at Toy Fair which will take place between February 18 and 21 next month. Until then, this is exciting news as there’s rarely been any merchandise from this franchise, given that the 1982 was poorly originally poorly received and only achieved its cults status over time.
Blade Runner 2049 is coming to theaters on October 5, 2017 directed by Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Arrival), produced by Ridley Scott with a script by Hampton Fancher (Blade Runner) and Michael Green (Logan) and stars Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista and Jared Leto, with Jóhann Jóhannsson writing the score.
