David Ayer will continue putting his stamp with the villains of the DC Extended Universe.
The director will reunite with Margot Robbie, who played Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, for a new film centering on the female villains of the DC universe and based on comic series titled Gotham City Sirens.
As the title hints, Gotham City Sirens revolved around Batman’s most infamous female enemies, including Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and Catwoman.
Robbie is also acting as executive producer on this new project that has tapped Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who’s recent work includes Tomb Raider and Sherlock Holmes 3, to pen the script. Geoff Johns, Jon Berg and Ayer will serve as producers.
Meanwhile, the Suicide Squad sequel is still in development, though now it’s unclear if Ayer will return or when production might start. The director is currently finishing principal photography for Netflix’s Bright, a fantasy thriller starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton.
Given the praise Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn received, it is natural that the studio is pushing forward with this project, and it really is an interesting one. I just hope they don’t delay that Suicide Squad sequel too much, as I loved all those characters and can’t wait to see more of them. What do you think?
