John Paesano has signed on to write the music for Pacific Rim: Uprising, the sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s giant robots fighting giant monsters extravaganza.
Paesano has previously collaborated with Pacific Rim: Uprising director Steven S. DeKnight on Netflix’s Daredevil, where the filmmaker is currently acting as a show runner. His other composing credits include the Maze Runner movies, the comedy Almost Christmas, the sports drama My All American and the upcoming Tupac biography All Eyez on Me. You can’t deny the guy has range.
Ramin Djawadi was the composer on the original Pacific Rim, and he delivered a strong score that successfully blended a powerful orchestra and electric guitars to represent both sides of the fighting giants. It’s very unlikely Paesano will use any of his themes of course, but one can still hope there will be some kind of continuity in a sequel that’s slowly turning into a spin-off set in the same universe.
