Despite previous reports that had the Pacific Rim sequel title as Pacific Rim: Maelstrom or simply Maelstrom, even seemingly confirmed by a photo announcing the beginning of the shoot, Legendary Pictures has officially announced what this new movie will be called.
Within a company press release that offered many other announcements, the title of the movie is revealed as Pacific Rim: Uprising. In the same press release the Godzilla sequel is referred as Godzilla: King of Monsters.
No plot details are known for either film, but from those titles we can predictably assume that there’s going to be an uprise from the creatures that created the kaiju, or the human forces? As for Godzilla, that title doesn’t say much. We know that Mothra, Rodan and King Gidorah were announced for future films and obviously, they’re going to fight. Interestingly, the title for the American version of the original Japanese movie was Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
Godzilla: King of Monsters is coming to theaters on March 22, 2019 directed by Michael Dougherty (Krampus), while Pacific Rim: Uprising is coming sooner on February 23, 2018 directed by Steven S. DeKnight starring John Voyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny. Jing Tian, Levi Meaden, Adria Arjona, Karan Brar and Zhang Jin.
