At CinemaCon in Las Vegas, 20th Century Fox unveiled a new trailer for the third film in the current Planet of the Apes series, Matt Reeves’ War for the Planet of the Apes.
The trailer opens with a couple lines from the first movie reminding us where Caesar came from. It then goes on to show us the grim present in which apes and humans are in the brink of war. Both sides want to survive, but that might not be possible, and to protect his kind Caesar is pushed to the edge. Watch it below.
The new trailer follows the tone set by the previous one, meaning we’ll get a movie that is highly emotional, just like Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which Reeves also directed. It’s a rare thing to have summer ‘blockbuster’ with this amount of visual effects gets so deep, and I’m glad they keep following this path.
Andy Serkis performance as Caesar looks stellar as always, and Woody Harrelson’s villain promises to be a real match for him.
War for the Planet of the Apes opens on July 14 and also stars Steve Zahn, Amiah Miller, Karin Konoval and Terry Notary, with music by Michael Giacchino.
