Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King’s It, and it looks genuinely creepy.

While we only get shirt glimpses of probably the most famous and most scary clown, the trailer is filled with atmosphere and it should won more than one skeptical. Watch it below!

Stephen King’s It has been previously adapted as TV miniseries and famously starred Tim Curry as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. This time is Bill Skarsgård who gets to put on the makeup to scare a new generation.

It is being directed by Andrés Muschieti, who previously gave us Mama, based on his own short film. I loved Mama so I’m pretty confident he’ll do a great job here as well. Cary Fukunaga was originally attached to direct, but dropped out because of creative differences, but the current film stills credits him as a co-writer.

If the film succeeds, as sequel is being planned which will focus on the second part of the novel which takes places decades later and sees the characters now as adults.

In the meantime you can see It when it’s released on September 8, this year.
